Now that you have received your fertility medications from Optum Specialty Pharmacy, it’s important that you read the following as you begin your journey:

1. Medication Inventory: Before opening your medication, make sure the amount of medication received matches the amount needed for your treatment cycle. Call us right away if there are any issues.
2. Medication Storage: Some fertility medications require different storage temperatures. Please make sure to follow temperature storage guidelines as recommended by the drug manufacturer.
3. Supplies: We will provide you with the supplies needed to administer your medications. Please make sure you review and understand how to use the supplies with each medication.
4. Medication Management: As you begin your fertility treatment, it’s important that you keep track of how much of each medication is being used as you administer each dose. 

If your doctor wants you to increase your medication quantity or dosage, you may have to place another order to complete your fertility treatment. Have your doctor request a refill as soon as possible.

We can help you find available fertility options and medications for your needs. Below are some of the ways we support the LGBTQ+ community.

Reciprocal IVF: Reciprocal IVF for lesbian couples allows both women to participate in pregnancy. One woman supplies her eggs which are retrieved and fertilized by donated sperm in IVF, with the resulting embryo(s) implanted into her partner for pregnancy by a gestational carrier.  

The largest benefit of reciprocal IVF is it gives each woman the chance to contribute to the conception and birth of the couple's child. The risks are the same as traditional IVF, though it involves medical procedures for both women.

Fertility preservation options for transgender adults: May include sperm, oocyte, embryo, ovarian tissue or testicular tissue cryopreservation. These options are similar to those available for men and women undergoing gonadotoxic cancer therapies or elective fertility preservation for social reasons.

Fertility preservation for transgender children and adolescents: Many transgender children and adolescents are interested in gender reaffirming surgery. It is recommended that transgender children and adolescents and their guardians be informed and counseled regarding options for fertility preservation prior to the initiation of pubertal suppression and treatment with gender affirming hormones. 

In children who have initiated natal puberty, fertility options include sperm, oocyte, and embryo cryopreservation. Currently, it is not possible for children who have not undergone puberty (and who may have used gender affirming hormones for an extended period of time) to preserve their eggs. 

Prolonged puberty suppression using Gonadotropin releasing hormones (GNRH) analogs is reversible and should not impair resumption of puberty upon cessation.
